Shane Macklin, Director
Mr. Shane Macklin is a graduate of the University of Nebraska Lincoln School of Music. He received is master degree from the University of Southern Oregon. He has taught in three states including Nebraska, Texas, Iowa and South Dakota. His previous tenure in Sioux Falls was at Roosevelt High School from 2000-2010 and Memorial Middle school 2012-2013. Mr. Macklin brings years of teaching experience at all levels to the position, as well as an extensive background in the marching arts.
Mr. Macklin was a member of the World Class Finalist Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps 1986, 1987, and alumni corps in 2006. He also directed and designed for the DCI Open Class finalist Railmen Drum and Bugle corps from Omaha, NE from 1988-1992. Mr. Macklin is a successful show and drill designer for several regional programs. He also is a clinician and adjudicator throughout the Midwest. Mr. Macklin has a great interest in restoring old homes, and cares for former racing greyhounds. |
Kevin Kurtz, Assistant Director
Mr. Kevin Kurtz graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in Music Education where his main section of study was percussion. He also has his Master's Degree from the American Band College in Music Education through Central Washington University.
Mr. Kurtz began his teaching career in his hometown of Parkston, SD where he taught 4-12 instrumental music from ‘17-‘20. He then moved to Sioux Falls to be a long-term substitute teacher for the ‘20-‘21 school year. During that time, he long-term taught at Pettigrew Elem., Memorial MS, Patrick Henry MS, Roosevelt HS, and George-Little Rock in Iowa. Outside side of the classroom, Mr. Kurtz has been involved with a number of other groups. He has held positions with SuFuDu as a member of the Board of Directors and as a technical staff member and Co-Artistic Director. He has worked with the Brookings Marching Band, Brookings Indoor Drumline, Brandon Valley Marching Band, Brandon Valley Indoor Drumline, Summer Youth Band in Sioux Falls, Minnesota Brass, and Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps. He has also judged solo & ensemble contests, been a percussion clinician at the Region V music festival, and a presenter at Middle School All-State Band. When Mr. Kurtz is not in front of a music ensemble, you can find him spending time with his wife, family, friends and 2 dog, Sage & Stormy. |
