Jefferson's premier steel pan ensemble

Jefferson STEEL ensemble is the only of its kind in the Sioux Falls School District. The ensemble involves opportunities for students to perform on Bass Pans, Cello Pans, Double Second Pans, and Lead pan. Students also have the opportunity to perform the rhythm section called the "engine room" which includes drum set, brake drums, shakers, congas.
Jefferson STEEL meets during 5A, opposite of Jazz Band/Lunch, every day of the week. We learn about the history of steel pans, prepare numerous pieces of literature for performances, and compose/arrange our own music. This ensemble also is one that will travel to other school and perform for other student bodies and communities. MembershipDue to instrumental and schedule restrictions, the ensemble is exclusive to percussion students at JHS.
A second non-percussionist ensemble CAN be formed, if there is enough interest. |
