Fingering Pattern
All valved instruments follow the same pattern for their chromatic fingerings. Below is the order (left-to-right) for going up a chromatic scale.
1 = 1st Valve, Index Finger; 2 = 2nd Valve, Middle Finger; 3 = 3rd Valve, Ring Ringer
Intonation Tendencies
The above fingerings will allow a player to play certain pitches in that particular overtone series (see next page). However, not all of these fingerings play in tune. Below is the pitch tendencies for each fingerings pitch tendency. Continue to the next page to learn how these fingerings match up with the overtone series.
